Jedno z najgłośniejszych dzieł literatury XX wieku w nowym przekładzie Ryszarda Wojnakowskiego. Powieść „Na Zachodzie bez zmian” należy do najgłośniejszych dzieł literatury XX wieku. Jej bohaterowie, podobnie jak sam autor, należą do „straconego pokolenia”: pokolenia, którego młodość przepadła w okopach pierwszej wojny światowej. Osiemnasto-, dziewiętnastolatkowie trafiają na front niemal prosto ze szkolnej ławy, namawiani przez nauczycieli do spełnienia obowiązku wobec ojczyzny. Czymże jednak jest ten obowiązek? – pytają siebie, świadomi, że strzelają do takich jak oni młodych, tęskniących za domem i pokojem i pytających o sens wojny wrogów. Okrucieństwo machiny wojennej, w której są zaledwie trybikami, odbiera im najpierw poczucie człowieczeństwa, a w końcu i życie – i w tym sensie są oni dosłownie „straconym pokoleniem”. Mistrzowskie wniknięcie w emocje bohatera, gwałtowność opisu ataków z lądu i powietrza, atmosfera nieuchronności śmierci – wszystko to sprawia, że „Na Zachodzie bez zmian” do dziś przejmuje grozą.
